Beginning the long road back from neglect
Its been a long winter and other priorities have overshadowed the garden enormously. As a result, the damage from neglect is acute. I started some healing work with installation of irrigation (which I will look at separately in another post soon). Inspected many of the residents today and took some photos for the first serious time in a very long time. [Show slideshow] 123► [Update: Day 2 – more photos added to gallery...
Bamboozled 2: Division Required
Sunday project – divide one of the big bamboo pots. Only one of the four really needs it I think. One definitely doesn’t seem to need it (though repotting might be worthwhile), another one is so big I have no idea how I will be able to get it out of its current container even if I wanted to divide it, and the fourth seems pretty happy as it is so I will leave it be for this year. But this one is in dire need of dividing...
Instant Succulent Collection
Today’s project was to pot up the collection of succulents I bought as a job lot from a guy online. I have no idea what most of them are, but it’s an attractive little collection and I think the potting went pretty well. There were a number of leaf break-offs in the process, but they will be worth trying to propagate from as cuttings, so no harm done. The pebbles I had available for mulch might be a little larger than...
(I Never Promised You) A Rose Garden
The most accidental sub-project of the front yard so far. End of season bargains found on some roses while shopping for plants online proved irresistible, so while I had no intention of doing anything ‘rosy’, I suddenly found myself with five different roses that needed a home. So I thought I would need to perhaps make a dedicated extra small garden bed for them. But I couldn’t decide on an ideal location for it. At...
Kangaroo Paws For Thought
I got a couple of tubestock/starter sized Kangaroo Paws a couple of weeks ago. By the time they got into the ground, they were rather wilty, but have since picked up, although still not looking exactly healthy. Then yesterday at Woolworths I found some much larger plants (close to full-size as it turns out since these are ‘mini’ cultivars that grow to around 50cm). They were priced at $9.99 with a further 20% off for just...
