Duck Pond Adventures – Part Two

The next stage in the great duck pond adventure is to activate the planned system to store the contents of the pond (or at this stage, bath) for later use on the garden. The aim being that rather than having to dump the whole contents immediately on to the garden, I can use it when I need it instead, or put it on a drip release or whatever I decide is best.

I obtained some food grade barrels/drums as well as a dirty water pump over the past couple of weeks and have already done a test of the pump into one of the drums (very successfully – the pump speed is fantastic) but didn’t have fittings for a tap off the drum. I was waiting for them to arrive from the USA (Amazon). They came a couple of days ago.

The steps for adding the tap to the drum are outlined in the comments on each photo in the gallery below. There’s also a video of the actual test, showing how quickly it works. I haven’t closely examined the tap for leaks yet – I can check on that tomorrow, weather permitting. But a quick look gave me the impression its holding very nicely indeed.

And here’s another video, of the ducks checking out the newly filled tub. You can see when she finally gets in, Edina wants to swim around but there’s no room to go anywhere – they are going to love the new pond I have on order. I am not going to enjoy digging the hole for it to go in.
